NORC study finds Massachusetts young adults see sports betting as socially acceptable

Regulation

A NORC study of Massachusetts residents aged 18 to 25 found that many viewed sports betting as socially acceptable while recognising potential harms. The three-year research, funded by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission with Gemini Research, ran from 2023 to 2026; researchers told the commission that 71% of interviewed young adults had previously bet on sports.

The findings give Massachusetts regulators and operators evidence on young adults’ betting attitudes and reported participation.
