Maltese court refuses to enforce Austrian €83,335.97 player-loss judgment

Regulation

Malta’s First Hall Civil Court refused on 15 January to enforce an Austrian judgment ordering Betway to repay €83,335.97 in gambling losses. The court said enforcement would conflict with Malta’s public policy and EU freedom-of-services rules, citing Betway’s MGA licence. It ordered the player to pay the proceedings’ costs.

The ruling affects whether operators licensed in Malta can face enforcement of player-loss judgments from other EU countries.
