Louisiana lawmakers propose expanding online gambling ban to dual-currency games

Regulation

Louisiana Representative Laurie Schlegel pre-filed House Bill 883 to expand the state’s definition of illegal online gambling to cover dual-currency games that simulate gambling and offer prizes or cash equivalents. The proposal would also extend to payment and platform providers, create Attorney General enforcement powers and set penalties of up to $100,000 and five years’ imprisonment for operators.

If enacted, the proposal could expose game operators and supporting payment or platform providers to new enforcement and penalties.
