Light & Wonder has announced the first installation of its RAPIDPLAY cashless system at Crystal Bay Casino in Crystal Bay, Nevada. The company said the system had been approved to launch in Nevada, and that Crystal Bay Casino is the first venue to deploy it.

According to the company, RAPIDPLAY lets players reach their funds at slot machines or on personal mobile devices instead of withdrawing cash. A QR code is used to transfer funds, and the company said players do not need a separate app or a loyalty card. Light & Wonder said the system is intended to reduce friction and to support responsible play and anti-money laundering measures.

Muthu Palanichamy, president and general manager of global systems at Light & Wonder, said the installation was the company's first and that it was working with Crystal Bay Casino on the debut. Eric Roe, general manager of Crystal Bay Casino, said the casino was the first to deploy RAPIDPLAY and described it as a way to add convenience for guests.

Cashless systems remain a contentious topic, the source notes, since critics contend that such systems intrude on the privacy of players. Nevertheless, Las Vegas has increasingly embraced the approach. According to the source, the technology permits gambling problems to be tracked as they happen and stops people who have barred themselves from playing from joining in.
