Light & Wonder installs first RapidPlay slots at Nevada casino

Deals & M&A2 min read

Light & Wonder said it placed its first slot machines using RapidPlay pay-by-bank technology on a Nevada casino floor in October 2026, at Crystal Bay Casino in Crystal Bay. The company said the machines were its first slots featuring the system.

RapidPlay, which Light & Wonder first announced in 2024, is powered by Koin Payments. Players capture a QR code with a mobile camera, and the link opens a banking transfer executed by Koin that moves funds from a checking or savings account to the gaming machine. The system does not require a mobile app download or membership of the casino's rewards programme.

Light & Wonder had initially partnered with Trustly for RapidPlay but later ended that partnership. In 2024, Jeff Allen, then senior director of production management at Light & Wonder, described the system as an ATM at the slot machine, saying players could withdraw and insert funds at the point of play rather than walking to an ATM.

Eric Roe, the general manager at Crystal Bay Casino, said the property was the first to deploy RapidPlay and that this showed its commitment to adopting technology that adds convenience for guests. According to the source, Light & Wonder intends to bring the cashless slots to more Nevada casinos over the next few months.

Casinos were largely cash-run operations before COVID-19 arrived, the source notes. As the virus spread, guidance to cut down on physical contact pushed the industry to modernize faster, in step with society's wider move toward cashless payments. Nevada regulators then set out rules requiring manufacturers to build cashless gaming systems.

Station Casinos brought Apple Pay-enabled cashless slot and poker machines into service in July, installing them at a number of properties in the Las Vegas Valley, including its casinos and gaming taverns. The machines run on TrustedTap, a product of Las Vegas tech startup Adostics, which transfers funds straight from a debit card held in the Apple Wallet onto a gaming machine. Safeguards for responsible play are part of the technology, such as limits on wagering that players set for themselves.
