Italian senator proposes 2% levy on football betting turnover for FIGC

Regulation

Senator Paolo Marcheschi’s bill, published in Italy’s Senate, proposes a 2% contribution on football betting turnover from 1 January 2027, covering online and retail wagers on events organised by the FIGC and its affiliated leagues. The proposal estimates annual proceeds of €230m and would require quarterly payments to the FIGC; it also proposes a corresponding reduction in the state levy on fixed-odds football betting.

If enacted, the contribution would change concessionaires’ payment obligations and the tax treatment of football betting.
