The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) reported that the 10 matches played by the senior men's national football team in 2025 generated average betting turnover of €5.6m per event, with tax revenue of about €200,000. The figures appear in the federation's 2025 activity report, according to the report.
The report compared the football figure with average betting turnover of €300,000 for the men's national basketball team and €600,000 for the men's and women's national volleyball teams.
The report also addressed the protection of competition integrity, described as one of the cornerstones of the FIGC's regulatory framework and federal action. The federation said this work involves Italian stakeholders including the Unità Informativa Scommesse Sportive and the Gruppo Investigativo Scommesse Sportive at the government authority, as well as international bodies such as Europol.
According to the report, the integrity activity is carried out with the support of Sportradar, which monitors global betting flows and also works with Fifa and Uefa. The work covers analysis of betting trends, assessment of possible anomalies and involvement of the federal prosecutor's office for investigative activity, alongside a training and awareness programme on betting risks and the relevant rules.
The report also referred to amendments to the Sports Agents Regulation approved on 23 April 2025. The text changes the requirements for access to the federal register, introducing stricter criteria on reputational standing and professional integrity, with more grounds for exclusion linked to serious offences, conflicts of interest and breaches of ethical principles, particularly in relation to sports betting.
