Hellenic Gaming Commission blocks more than 11,000 illegal betting sites

Enforcement & compliance

Greece’s Hellenic Gaming Commission has blocked more than 11,000 websites linked to illegal betting, according to the report. The unlicensed market is estimated to generate €1.6bn to €1.7bn a year, while as many as 10,000 new gambling-related sites are estimated to appear monthly. The commission is seeking closer cooperation with the telecommunications regulator to speed access to domain-registration data.

Licensed operators face an enforcement environment shaped by persistent illegal-site activity and planned regulatory changes.
