Federal Court finds former Star CEO breached director duties in Australia

Regulation

Australia’s Federal Court found that former Star Entertainment Group chief executive Matt Bekier and former senior legal counsel Paula Martin failed in their duties as company directors. In the case brought by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission, the judge found that ASIC had not proved its case against several other directors, while seven members of Star’s executive leadership team were found not to have breached their duties.

The judgment sets out individual director-liability findings over Star’s handling of financial-crime risks in its casinos.
