Federal Court orders The Star to pay A$260m for AML/CTF breaches

Enforcement & compliance

Australia’s Federal Court ordered The Star Entertainment Group to pay A$260 million for breaches of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws. The court found failures in customer checks and monitoring, including allowing more than 1,200 customers to gamble through high-risk channels without adequate safeguards; AUSTRAC said the penalty reflects the seriousness of the contraventions.

Casino operators should review customer checks and monitoring for high-risk customers to meet AML and counter-terrorism financing laws.

End-of-day close The Star Entertainment Group (SGR), AUD, to 29 October 2026
