Erika Hilton asks Brazil’s MPF to stop betting adverts during sports broadcasts

Regulation

Federal representative Erika Hilton asked Brazil’s Federal Public Ministry (MPF) to seek legal action suspending betting advertisements by commentators during match broadcasts. Hilton argued that such promotions blur sports analysis and encouragement to spend money; the MPF is to assess the request. The Secretariat of Prizes and Betting said advertising by licensed operators is subject to rules intended to protect consumers and distinguish authorised platforms.

The MPF’s response could affect how betting operators advertise during televised sports in Brazil.
