Dutch Supreme Court upholds pre-2021 unlicensed gambling contracts
The Netherlands Supreme Court ruled on 3 July that gambling contracts made with unlicensed online operators before 1 October 2021 are not automatically void. Players may still seek annulment or damages on specific grounds, but recovery of losses must be assessed case by case. Entain welcomed the ruling, while the report also reports collective claims involving Unibet, Bwin, PartyCasino, PartyPoker and 888.
The ruling limits claims seeking historical gambling losses solely on the basis that contracts were automatically void.
