Dutch Supreme Court upholds pre-2021 gambling agreements in player-loss cases
The Supreme Court of the Netherlands ruled in two player cases that gambling agreements made before 2021 were not invalidated by the country’s later gambling legislation. The players had each lost between $140,000 and $155,000 before 2021, but the court found the prohibition on gambling with unlicensed providers did not itself void their contracts. Claimants may still pursue reimbursement on other legal grounds.
The ruling limits one route for players seeking refunds from operators over pre-2021 gambling losses in the Netherlands.
