Dutch Council of State upholds six-week Utrecht restaurant closure over illegal gambling
The Netherlands’ Council of State dismissed a restaurant owner’s appeal against Utrecht’s six-week closure of his premises over illegal gambling. The ruling upholds a March 2024 lower-court decision that also accepted the withdrawal of the restaurant’s operating and alcohol licences. The owner had challenged the police report, the entry and the finding that the premises posed a public-order risk.
The ruling confirms the closure and licence withdrawals imposed on premises found to have hosted illegal gambling.
