Dominican Republic ministry proposes licences for some cruise ship casinos
The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Finance and Economy has proposed a resolution requiring licences for casinos on first-category cruise ships that carry more than 2,000 passengers and remain in national waters for at least six hours. The proposal would align their rules with those applying to gambling rooms in first-category hotels; separate official statistics cited in the report show gambling and betting service prices rose 1.20% from December 2024 to December 2025.
Cruise operators meeting the proposed thresholds could face a new Dominican licensing requirement.
