Pennsylvania lawmakers are considering HB 2711, a bill introduced by Representative Tarik Khan to regulate prediction-market platforms while allowing sports event contracts. The proposal would require users to be at least 21, set consumer and integrity rules, and permit penalties including up to $10,000 per violation; the bill has been referred to a House committee.
Nevada congressmen reportedly introduced the Prediction Markets are Gambling Act on 24 July. The proposal would bar exchanges from listing sports or casino-style contracts; its sponsors said it would protect the integrity of Nevada's regulated gambling sector.
New Jersey lawmakers proposed a 9% tax on prediction-market companies’ gross income in bill S4447. The amended bill passed the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee by a 9-4 vote; the report says it recognises the CFTC’s regulatory role and drops an earlier licensing proposal.
New Jersey senators Nicholas Scutari and Paul Sarlo introduced a bill to regulate prediction markets and require operators to obtain state permits. The proposal would add a 10% tax surcharge to prediction-market trades, including sports-related contracts, and set a $5 million initial licensing fee for firms offering sports contracts; it has been referred to the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.
A draft bill from the House Armed Services Committee would require the US defence secretary to set rules barring military personnel and Pentagon civilian employees from prediction-market trading using non-public information. The proposal follows prosecutors’ allegations that a special forces soldier made about $400,000 trading on Polymarket using classified information; the soldier has pleaded not guilty.
