Catania's State Police notified the owner of a bar and betting shop in the Antico Corso district of a temporary suspension of its activity for seven days. The measure was ordered by the police chief under article 100 of the consolidated public security law (TULPS).

The measure followed checks carried out on several occasions by officers of the "Centrale" sectional police station. The checks found the habitual presence of people with criminal records for offences including criminal association, also of a mafia type, drug dealing and property crimes.

After an investigation by the Administrative and Social Police Division of the Catania police headquarters, the temporary closure of the business was ordered. The premises were considered a habitual meeting place for people with criminal records and potentially dangerous for public order and safety. The measure is part of State Police checks on bars, pubs, kiosks and betting shops, aimed at protecting public safety and order.
