Catania's police headquarters has ordered a seven-day temporary closure of a bar and betting shop in the San Cristoforo district, according to a police notice. The order was issued by the questore under Article 100 of the Testo unico delle leggi di pubblica sicurezza (TULPS) and was notified to the owner of the business.
The measure followed an investigation by the Questura's Divisione Polizia amministrativa e sociale, based on checks carried out by officers of the commissariato sezionale Centrale over a significant period. The checks documented the regular presence at the premises of people with criminal records for offences including criminal association, drug trafficking and offences against property.
According to the Questura, the suspension is intended to stop the business from continuing to serve as a meeting place for people considered a danger to public order and safety. The police said the measure also has a deterrent function and is meant to protect businesses that operate in compliance with the rules.
