Brazilian lawmakers consider redirecting betting revenue to military sports

Regulation

Brazilian lawmakers are considering a bill to redirect part of sports betting revenue allocated to the Ministry of Sports to the Ministry of Defence for military sports programmes. Bill PL 6.124/2025 passed the Senate's Sports Committee and is due for review by the Economic Affairs Committee. The report says the government collected BRL 3.4 billion in betting taxes in the first quarter of 2026.

The proposal could change how betting-related public revenue is allocated between government programmes.
