Brazilian deputy challenges conflicting estimates of legal online betting market
Brazilian deputy Julio Lopes criticised conflicting estimates of the legal share of the country’s online betting market at a parliamentary hearing on 24 March. A Finance Ministry official said the SPA does not endorse the cited estimates and is working with Ipea on an indicator, with a work plan expected in 2026. Industry representatives also presented estimates of legal and illegal market revenues.
A planned official indicator could improve estimates of illegal betting and inform Brazilian policy decisions.
