Brazilian deputies approve phased betting tax rise to 15%
Brazil's Chamber of Deputies approved a bill raising the tax on online betting companies from 12% to 15%, according to reports. The increase would be phased in at 13% in 2026, 14% in 2027 and 15% in 2028, with the additional three percentage points assigned to social security. The bill also proposes liability for parties promoting illegal betting operators and payment providers that fail to restrict them; it now goes to the Senate.
The proposal would raise operators’ tax rates and could expose promoters and payment providers to liability for illegal betting activity.
