Australian parliament passes nationwide gambling advertising restrictions

Regulation

Australia’s parliament passed the Interactive Gambling Amendment (Gambling Reform) Bill 2026, introducing nationwide restrictions on gambling advertising. The rules limit live-event advertising, cap television wagering ads at three an hour during specified daytime and evening hours, and restrict online ads to logged-in users over 18 who can opt out. The reforms are scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2027, with ACMA administering a national opt-out register.

Operators will need to comply with new advertising limits and the national opt-out register from 1 January 2027.
