Australian government assessment estimates ad limits cut gambling spend by AUD62.7m

Regulation

An assessment prepared within Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s office estimates Australia’s proposed gambling advertising restrictions would reduce national gambling expenditure by AUD 62.7 million, or about 0.8% of total spending. It estimates a complete advertising ban would cut spending by more than AUD 100 million a year, while the government’s planned measures would impose targeted restrictions across television, radio, venues and online platforms.

Operators and media businesses face proposed advertising restrictions, while the assessment estimates their effect on gambling expenditure.
