ASA rules Betway’s Hamilton-referencing Facebook ad breached gambling rules

Regulation

The UK Advertising Standards Authority ruled that a Betway Facebook advert referencing Lewis Hamilton breached rules on gambling promotions likely to appeal strongly to under-18s. Betway said it limited Hamilton’s appearance and targeted the advert at users over 25, but the ASA ordered the company not to use the communication again in its current form and to avoid personalities with significant youth appeal.

The ruling requires Betway to withdraw the advert in its current form and avoid personalities with strong youth appeal.
