Apple and Google remove betting apps from Brazilian stores

Regulation

Apple and Google removed betting apps from their digital stores in Brazil on 6 October, reportedly on the first day a provisional measure banning bets took effect. The report says R$1.33bn remained on platforms by the afternoon of 5 October, when voluntary withdrawals closed; banks were due to return funds to users from 9 to 14 October. The National Association of Games and Lotteries opposed the measure, and the companies did not respond to requests for comment.

App removals restrict betting distribution in Brazil, while users’ access to platform balances follows a scheduled return process.
