ADM rules require Italian online operators to offer account limits
Regulation2 min read
In brief
- ADM-licensed online operators must offer deposit limits and self-exclusion tools inside player accounts.
- A deposit limit is mandatory at account opening; cuts apply immediately, increases only after a waiting period.
- Indefinite self-exclusion can be revoked only after at least six months and covers all ADM licensees.
- The ISS National Green Line 800 558822 offers free, anonymous support and referral to local services.
Italy's Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) requires every operator holding an ADM concession to make self-limitation tools available to registered players inside the gaming account, according to an article on the rules. The tools are set by regulation and are the same across all authorised sites, which can be identified by the agency's logo and the concession number shown at the foot of the page.
A deposit limit must be set when the account is opened, and registration does not complete until the player states one, usually on a daily, weekly or monthly basis depending on the options the site offers. The law sets no minimum or maximum amounts. Lowering a limit takes effect as soon as it is saved, while a request to raise it becomes active only after a waiting period of some days. Many sites also offer loss limits or limits on stakes on individual products, configurable from the responsible-gaming section of the account.
Temporary self-exclusion blocks access to play for a defined period, normally 30, 60 or 90 days, after which the account reactivates without further steps. Indefinite self-exclusion has no expiry and can be revoked only after at least six months from activation. A self-exclusion requested at one operator is recorded in ADM's centralised system and extends automatically to all licensed sites, also preventing the opening of new accounts with the same tax code. The request is made from the personal area of the account, and any remaining balance stays available for withdrawal during the suspension.
Operators add monitoring functions beyond those required by regulation, such as session reminders showing at regular intervals the time spent on the platform and the balance of recent play, and some platforms offer short pauses from 24 hours to a few weeks. The article also lists the National Green Line of the Higher Institute of Health (ISS) on 800 558822, which answers anonymously and directs callers to local services, and the SerD addiction services of local health authorities, which treat gambling disorder with free pathways covered by the national health service. Relatives and friends can also contact listening services for guidance.
