Whitmer proposes Michigan gambling tax increases for 2027 budget

Regulation

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer proposed gambling tax changes in her 2027 budget plan, reportedly targeting an additional $195.4 million in annual revenue. The proposal would raise the top online casino tax rate from 28% to 36%, add per-bet charges for sportsbooks and end deductions for promotions; the legislature must approve any changes.

If enacted, the proposal would increase operators’ tax costs across online casino and sports betting in Michigan.
