Michigan Senate rejects proposed gambling tax increases in $88.1bn budget

Regulation

Michigan’s Senate approved an $88.1bn state budget last week but left out gambling tax increases sought by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Her proposals included a per-bet sportsbook fee, ending promotional deductions and a higher online casino rate above $185m in revenue; budget negotiations must finish before 1 July.

Gambling tax increases sought by the governor remain excluded as Michigan budget negotiations continue.
