Washington judge restricts Kalshi event contracts and sets geofencing deadlines

Regulation

King County Superior Court Judge John McHale ordered Kalshi to stop accepting contracts in Washington on sports, elections, entertainment and several other topics, while allowing contracts tied to commodities, climate, economics and finance. The preliminary injunction requires an initial geofencing system by 19 August and a more advanced one by 2 September; Kalshi appealed and said it was considering further legal action.

Kalshi must block specified contracts in Washington while preserving access to permitted categories, making geofencing and legal challenges central.
