Uruguay casino operators propose online gambling bill with land-based licence limits

Regulation

Uruguay’s Chamber of Operators and Lessors of Casino and Entertainment Hall Services submitted a bill to the Executive Branch proposing state authorisation and oversight for online gambling. The proposal would reserve online casino licences for companies already operating land-based casinos and includes measures such as unauthorised-site blocking and a national user registry. The Executive Branch will decide the next step; licence requirements and taxes remain to be determined.

If adopted, the proposal would limit online casino eligibility to existing land-based operators and establish new compliance requirements.
