UK politicians call for removal of rule favouring gambling shop licences

Regulation

A group of British politicians and local councillors has called for the UK to remove the “aim to permit” rule for gambling premises, according to the report. Signatories include 46 MPs, six members of the House of Lords and more than 200 councillors. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport says councils will gain further powers over the number and location of gambling premises.

Removing the rule could change how councils assess applications for betting shops and other gambling premises.
