UK Gambling Commission fines Betfair £2 million over customer-interaction failures

Enforcement & compliance

The UK Gambling Commission fined Betfair £2 million for failing to respond promptly to indicators of gambling harm, the report said. The Commission cited cases including a customer who placed more than 300 bets worth £20,000 in seven hours before a manual review; separately, judges upheld a ruling rejecting Lee Gibson’s claim for recovery of £1.5 million in losses.

The fine highlights failures to respond promptly to gambling-harm indicators, while the separate ruling rejected a loss-recovery claim.

According to that account, Flutter decided to maintain Betfair's operations throughout 2026 and to assess the sustainability of its Italian presence at a later stage.
