Deals & M&A · SectorWire deskSource published 3 min read

Svenska Spel reported net gaming revenue of SEK1.898bn for Q3 2026, up 1% from SEK1.874bn in the same quarter a year earlier, according to the group's results. The increase of SEK24m was driven mainly by Oddset sports betting, casino operations, Triss scratchcards and Lotto. Operating profit for the July to September period was SEK656m, down 9% from SEK718m in Q3 2025, a fall of SEK62m that the company attributed to higher costs for strategic investments. The operating margin fell from 38% to 35%.

For the first nine months of 2026, net gaming revenue was SEK5.741bn, against SEK5.562bn in the same period of 2025, an increase of SEK179m or 3%. The online sales channel grew 8%. Operating profit for the nine months rose to SEK1.932bn from SEK1.898bn a year earlier, an improvement of 2%, and the operating margin was stable at 34%. Profit from continuing operations reached SEK1.630bn, compared with SEK1.536bn in the corresponding period of 2025. The company said the figures for operating results, margins and other main financial indicators refer to continuing operations and exclude the land-based casino segment, which was discontinued in April 2025.

As part of its exit from land-based casinos, Svenska Spel completed the sale of the property that housed the former Casino Cosmopol in Stockholm. The buyer was Alecta Fastigheter, and the transaction is accounted for among discontinued operations. During the quarter the group continued investment in sports partnerships and in initiatives supporting national sport. It renewed until 2031 its agreements with SHL and SDHL, the two main Swedish ice hockey leagues, confirming its role as main sponsor of the competitions and their clubs. With the Swedish Sports Confederation (Riksidrottsförbundet), the group awarded 60 new scholarships for high-level athletes, intended to help them combine competitive sport with university studies. The agreement with the Swedish Ski Association (Svenska Skidförbundet) was extended and expanded until 2032 and now covers all sports disciplines represented by the federation.

On lotteries, 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of Triss, marked by the launch of a special ticket offering 40 prizes of SEK1m each. Among the year's results was a win of almost SEK200m on Vikinglotto, which the company said is the national record for the game and the ninth-highest win in Svenska Spel's history.

CEO Anna Johnson said growth in the Swedish gambling market is moderate while competition for customers remains intense, and that gaining market share in both the licensed games segment and the lotteries segment during the first half of 2026 was an important signal of strength. She said the positive trend continued in the third quarter with growth and good profitability, which she said shows the company's focus on sustainable growth is producing results. On sports betting, Johnson said the business continues to record very positive results, that the company exceeded the targets set for the 2026 football World Cup even in the final weeks of July, and that customer activity remained high until the final. She said that in addition to commercial initiatives and customer offers, the collaboration with the Swedish Football Association (Svenska Fotbollförbundet) played an important role and was considered a strategic element in strengthening the appeal of the group's offering.
