Sports Betting Alliance challenges Chicago gambling tax in court
The Sports Betting Alliance filed a Cook County court complaint challenging Chicago’s planned 10.25% sports-wagering tax and related licensing requirements. The group alleges the tax is unconstitutional and has requested a temporary restraining order; the city reportedly told online sportsbooks to obtain licences by 1 January to continue taking wagers from Chicago customers.
The case could determine whether Chicago can impose its planned tax and licensing requirements on sportsbook operators.
