Payment-ownership checks for online gambling in Spain took effect on 28 October under Real Decreto 813/2026, according to a report. Operators have until 28 April 2027 to adapt their systems to the new controls.

A separate decree, Real Decreto 520/2026, establishes a system of joint deposit limits per player and is due to apply from 25 March 2027. It sets default caps of €700 daily, €1,750 weekly and €3,300 over four weeks.

The source also links the changes to a reform of Spain's Gambling Act. Its public consultation closed on 22 June and it proposes, among other measures, limits on acquisition promotions.

Following the dissolution of the Cortes and with general elections on 29 November, the reform's passage is left to the next government, according to the report.
