Enforcement & compliance

South Korea’s communications commission is working to block access to 1,280 illegal sports betting sites ahead of the 2026 World Cup, according to the report. It said it would continue enforcement throughout the tournament in cooperation with other bodies, including the National Gambling Control Commission. The commission recorded 5,279 corrective-action cases involving illegal betting sites from January to the report date, compared with 43,718 in 2025 and 69,350 in 2024.

The blocking effort and ongoing enforcement may affect illegal betting access and the monitoring of sports wagering during the tournament.
