Singapore and Malaysia step up illegal gambling monitoring for World Cup
Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs said enforcement against illegal gambling will increase during the World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July. Singapore also plans responsible-gambling activities, while Malaysia’s communications minister said authorities will monitor gambling websites and apps and act against online promotion. Singapore stated that penalties for illegal gambling can include fines of up to SGD700,000 for repeat activity and imprisonment of up to 10 years.
Operators and service providers in both markets face increased scrutiny of gambling-related content and access during the tournament.
