Senator Tannas advances bill on First Nations gaming authority

Regulation

Senator Scott Tannas’s Bill S-241 seeks to give First Nations governing bodies exclusive authority to conduct, manage or license gaming on reserve lands in Canada. The proposal would require notice to federal and relevant provincial governments, but not prior approval; it was at second reading on 2 December.

If enacted, the bill would change how First Nations gaming operations are authorised on reserve lands.
