Ohio senator proposes raising sports betting tax to 22%

Regulation

Ohio state senator Louis Blessing proposed increasing the tax on sportsbook gross revenue from 20% to 22% through Senate Bill 199. Blessing said the increase could raise an additional $200 million annually for school athletics and sports venue work; senator Bill DeMora warned that operators could pass the cost to bettors.

The proposal could change Ohio sportsbook tax costs and direct additional revenue to school athletics and sports facilities.
