New South Wales plans facial recognition and statewide exclusion register for 2028
New South Wales says it will introduce mandatory facial recognition at gaming-room entrances and a statewide exclusion register in 2028. The register would apply exclusions across hotels and clubs with gaming machines, replacing the current venue-by-venue system; the government also outlined reforms to machine entitlements, marketing and account-based play. Gaming and Racing Minister David Harris said the package was developed with industry, harm-minimisation groups, stakeholders and privacy experts.
Hotels and clubs with gaming machines would need to implement cross-venue exclusions and facial recognition from 2028.
