Mississippi lawmakers renew push to legalise mobile sports betting

Regulation

Mississippi lawmakers are preparing another attempt to legalise mobile sports betting, with proponents proposing that state revenue from online betting go to the Public Employees’ Retirement System. House Gaming chairman Casey Eure said legalisation could curb illegal betting and generate revenue for casinos, while Senate Gaming chairman David Blount opposed the plan, disputing its potential pension impact. Estimates cited ranged from up to $80 million in annual tax revenue to about $30 million.

The proposal could legalise mobile betting and direct state revenue to the public employees’ pension system.
