Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) destroyed 518 illegal slot machines as part of its National Tourism Order Plan.
Of the machines destroyed, 315 had been seized in inspection operations carried out between 2009 and 2026 in Cusco, Pasco, Huánuco, Junín, Lima and La Libertad. The total also included equipment handed over to Mincetur by institutions such as the Callao Fiscal Police and the national customs and tax authority SUNAT. Mincetur said a further 203 machines were intended for minors. The destruction was carried out by Mincetur through its gaming directorate, the DGJCMT, under notarial supervision. So far in 2026, the sector has also closed 15 slot halls that were operating without authorisation in different localities.
Mincetur said the measure aims to stop the machines being used again in unauthorised premises and to protect the population, especially children and adolescents. The ministry also recalled that promoting, organising or taking part in illegal gambling can lead to prison sentences, as well as administrative and financial penalties, under current rules. It urged the public to report clandestine casinos, sports betting outlets and slot machine venues.
