MGA says Malta’s rules can cover prediction markets under existing licences

Regulation

Malta’s Gaming Authority (MGA) said its technology-neutral rules can cover prediction markets under existing licences, according to the report on a sector event in Malta. The applicable licence depends on whether a market operates against the house or peer to peer. The MGA also identified unresolved issues including consumer protection, market integrity, crypto use and possible conflicts with European financial rules.

Malta’s existing licences may cover prediction markets, but operators must assess the relevant model and unresolved regulatory issues.
