Japan's national rules for entertainment establishments bar under-18s from arcades after 22:00, according to the country's National Tourism Organisation. The organisation's official guide, cited by IGN Brasil, states that the national regulation requires venues to prevent under-18s from entering after 22:00.
Under-16s may remain in arcades after 18:00 only if accompanied by an adult, the guide states. From 22:00 the prohibition applies to all minors. The national rule also allows each municipality to impose additional restrictions between 06:00 and 22:00, such as requiring an adult guardian for certain age groups, so access conditions vary by region. The 22:00 curfew is described as a mandatory national floor, with local authorities able to adopt stricter measures during the rest of the day.
The legislation authorises staff to request identification documents from people attempting to enter after the restricted hour, the guide states. The tourism organisation's guide also notes other current rules in arcades: respecting queues, checking whether recording is permitted, and being aware that prizes cannot be converted into money.
