Italian Senate examines football reform with proposed 2% betting levy

Regulation

A submission by football economics expert Luciano Mondellini to a Senate committee says draft bill S. 1902 would impose a 2% contribution on football betting from 1 January 2027. The bill estimates annual proceeds of €230 million, with allocations for youth development, social projects, women’s football and grassroots clubs; the amount reaching professional clubs is undetermined.

The proposed levy could change betting operators’ costs, while its proceeds would be divided among several football-related purposes.
