Italian appeal court upholds €20,000 penalty over unauthorised lottery bets

Enforcement & compliance

An Italian appeal court upheld a €20,000 administrative penalty against the owner of a data transmission centre linked to an overseas bookmaker, according to the report. The case concerned a bet on a French number-draw lottery that was not included in an Italian-approved betting schedule. The court said the administrative rules applied separately from the operator’s acquittal in a criminal case.

The ruling maintains the restriction on accepting bets through foreign-linked centres for events absent from approved schedules.
