InfoPlay reviews Spain's new Player Portal and its limits

Regulation · SectorWire deskSource published 3 min read

Spain's Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 launched the Player Portal on 21 October 2026, alongside the new global deposit limit, according to a review by InfoPlay. The portal is a digital tool of the Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) that brings together each person's online gambling activity across operators authorised in Spain. It is available at portaljugador.ordenacionjuego.es, is free, is offered in Spanish and English, and can be used by all citizens whether or not they hold a gambling account. Access requires identification through Cl@ve, an electronic certificate or an electronic ID.

The section "Mis cuentas de juego" lists every operator at which a person is registered and the status of each account; InfoPlay describes this as the most useful function for detecting possible identity theft, since an account the user does not recognise indicates that someone has used their data. The "Mi actividad de juego" block provides charts and data for the last 12 months, aggregated by operator and by month, measured through three variables: spending/profit, participation and deposits. Reports for previous years, with activity by calendar year, can be downloaded in PDF and Excel. The portal also generates the gambling movements certificate, an annual summary of transactions with online operators which, according to the tool itself, matches the information sent to the tax agency under article 94 of the General Tax Law.

In "Mis avisos" each user can set their own participation and deposit thresholds; if these are exceeded, the user receives an email, which can also be consulted within the portal. According to Consumo, the portal also allows users to manage, consult and modify the joint deposit limits: €700 daily, €1,750 weekly and €3,300 per four weeks, which apply by default. It also shows the status of applications and allows users to check that the limits are actually applied at each operator.

The PACS section, the Protocol of Action for Impersonated Taxpayers, was drawn up by the DGOJ, the tax agency, the security forces and regulated operators, and is intended for people who find gambling winnings they do not recognise in their tax data. The protocol has five steps: obtain a PACS reference on the portal, file a report with the police, ask operators for the activity certificate and closure of the account, give those certificates to the police, and take the documentation to the tax agency. The portal also links to the Phishing Alert service, which notifies a user immediately when someone tries to register using their identity, and to CONFAD and Juego Seguro. It includes a surveys section for studies on behaviour and an incidents channel for technical support.

InfoPlay's review identifies several limitations. The main one is that the portal does not work in real time: each month's information is loaded on the 20th of the following month, so the most recent activity cannot be consulted and threshold alerts arrive with the same delay rather than at the moment a threshold is exceeded. The data is supplied by the operators themselves through the Internal Control System and passes "exigentes procesos de calidad" before publication. The portal does not allow users to close an account with an operator; that requires contacting each company.

InfoPlay also notes a discrepancy: the portal's frequently asked questions answer "No" to the question of whether limits can be set through the Player Portal, and state that alerts are "meramente informativo", whereas Consumo's press release says the portal serves to manage and modify the joint limits. The Player Portal was first announced in September 2024, when it was presented as a tool with which, for example, parents could check whether their children's identity was being used in online gambling.
