Hawaii committee advances online sports betting bill in 5-2 vote
Hawaii’s House Committee on Economic Development & Technology advanced HB 2570 in a 5-2 vote, moving the proposal to legalise online sports betting forward in the legislative process. The bill would require at least six platforms, prohibit in-person wagering, impose a 15% tax on adjusted gross revenue and set application and annual renewal fees at $500,000; opponents included state agencies and Honolulu prosecutor Steve Alm.
The bill would establish platform, tax and fee requirements for operators if lawmakers approve it.
