GRAI highlights research linking childhood gambling with adult harm

Regulation

Source: GRAI (Ireland)

Ireland’s Gambling Regulatory Authority said research using anonymous responses from more than 1,600 adults found a strong link between gambling during childhood and problem gambling in adulthood. The authority reported that those who gambled as children were almost twice as likely to experience problem gambling, while those who also had a parent who gambled heavily were four times more likely.

Childhood gambling and heavy parental gambling were associated with greater adult problem-gambling risk, informing prevention priorities.
