Spain’s DGOJ published a resolution allocating €1,049,380 to 20 research projects on gambling-related disorders, following a competitive process. The projects were selected from 42 applications for the 2025 funding call; the authority also published the 2026 call on 18 May.
The grants fund research intended to inform prevention and public policy on gambling-related harm in Spain.

Massachusetts is funding research into gambling-related harm among veterans, according to a report. Technical Assent is leading the work through the William Joiner Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston; the report cites estimates that 8% of veterans face gambling-related issues, compared with 1.4% of the population.
Ireland’s Gambling Regulatory Authority said research using anonymous responses from more than 1,600 adults found a strong link between gambling during childhood and problem gambling in adulthood. The authority reported that those who gambled as children were almost twice as likely to experience problem gambling, while those who also had a parent who gambled heavily were four times more likely.
DGOJ has announced funding of almost €1m for research into gambling harm. The announcement followed a consultation on changes proposed for the Gambling Regulation Act.
The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities awarded more than £9.4m to gambling harms organisations in the UK, according to a report. Recipients include Gambling with Lives, Gamban, GamLearn, Chapter One and Beacon Counselling Trust; the funding page puts total provision through 2028 at £39.7m.

Gamban said it has returned its gambling-blocking service to free access in England after receiving funding approved by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities. The company said it had previously switched to subscriptions and had already restored free service in Wales earlier in the year.
